NicheCom help RICS develop a new Property Measurement Course

NicheCom has been instrumental in helping Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) to develop a Certified Property Measurer course aimed at training those working in the property industry to undertake measurements in accordance with international standards.

In their recent ‘Measurement Matters’ guide, RICS noted that residential property is measured inconsistently in the UK and there can be up to 58% variance in measurement depending on the measurement standard adopted and the measured areas included. To address this issue, in 2017, they created their Property Measurement Standard to reflect International Property Measurement Standards (IPMS) and sought advice from stakeholders such as NicheCom, the UK’s largest provider of professional floorplans, on the best way to get the new standards implemented.

Many key figures in the property industry have also strongly supported the creation of clear guidance on property measurement. TV property expert, Phil Spencer, in a statement to RICS said: “It’s important that every room in a property is measured accurately so that buyers and renters pay a fair price.”

Kevin Scrupps, Director of Pygott & Crone Estate Agents welcomed the introduction of a course to help improve standards:

“In our industry accuracy, transparency and honesty are three of the main ingredients for being successful. Presenting a client’s property to the market correctly is very important and whilst we all know first impressions count with regards to photographs in this digital world, accurate floorplans are absolutely essential.”

Two years in the development, RICS’ new course has been created as a consequence of this clear desire to drive up standards across the industry. It will encompass online training followed by an exam and a requirement to commit to a number of hours of continuing professional development (CPD).

Qualified practitioners will receive a RICS-certified logo and be listed as certified property measurers on their website. RICS want to be able to promote companies who have undertaken the training, such as NicheCom, and are therefore best placed to offer measurement services in compliance with the standards.

NicheCom are delighted to have been involved from initial inception, to launch of the course and are proud to announce that our entire national network of 80 photographers are now RICS Certified Property Measurers.

Peter Burnham, Managing Director of NicheCom said:

“We have provided agents with over a million floor plans, all drawn with the RICS code of measuring as our guide. Accuracy and consistency are at the heart of what we do, and I am immensely proud of the fact that RICS have recognised our contribution and have given our staff the opportunity to have their skills and many years dedication rewarded with an official qualification.”

NicheCom is the UK’s leading supplier of property marketing services and one of the few agencies that can provide professional photos, accurate floor plans and EPCs from a single visit.
