Don’t believe everything you read in the papers!

Following on from England’s poor showing in the World Cup it is perhaps not surprising that this month has seen a series of own goals by property commentators in relation to house prices. Double dips and downward trends were widely predicted only for Halifax (Lloyds TSB), one of the more reliable and consistent recorders, to report a slight rise in average house prices for July.

The print media have a lot to answer to with their insistent depiction of a market in decline. At Foster Maddison we have long held that prices through 2010 would, at their worst, remain flat and with Halifax reporting a 4.9% rise for the year to date that looks to be a reasonable assumption. » Read more »
